The most common blood test is the complete blood count (CBC). This is actually several blood tests combined. It lets your healthcare provider know how the cells in the blood are doing. Some tests count the number of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Your healthcare provider closely monitors these blood values. Each person has his/her own normal baseline. In a person with sickle cell disease, raising or lowering the blood values can cause serious complications.
